2.Manhole Access Covers, Road Grates and Frames
Joyyr’s ductile cast iron and grey cast iron Manhole Access Covers, Road Grates and Frames are designed and tested in accordance with the Australian Standard AS3996:2019 and the European standard EN124:2015. The following table provides an overview of loading classes, its typical use and loading capacity. The appropriate class for a cover or grate depends upon the place of installation. Some place of installation, relative to class, are outlined below.
 
2.1 Australian Standard - AS3996: Access Covers and Grates
The Australian Standard, AS3996:2019 is nominated standard for projects and applications within Australia. Access Covers and Grates are designated by classes A, B, C, D, E, F & G according to load capacity. Type testing under AS3996 requires the Access Covers to meet the Ultimate Limit State Design Load (kN) without exceeding the Permanent Set and Deflection Limits. The following table provides an overview of the typical uses and load capacities of each Class. The appropriate class for an access cover or grate is dependent upon its place of installation.

NOTE: The above descriptions of classes of units reference to “wheel” should also be taken to include “dual wheels”. Norminal wheel loads are a guide only. Consideration should be be given to the type, size and pneumatic pressure of the load in application. A force of 1 kN is approximately equal to the weight of 100 kg.
 
   2.2  EN124 : 2015 - European Standard Load Classification
     Under BS EN 124:2015, manhole covers, access covers and gully grates are graded by different loading applications,,so,there are 6 classes as : class A15, B125, C250, D400, E600 and F900. The classification denotes the test load expressed in kN.
