Centrifugal casting, also known as rotocasting, is a specialized technique used primarily to create cylindrical parts. The process typically utilizes a horizontal machine (though vertical options exist) that spins a permanent mold—made of steel, cast iron, or graphite—to generate centrifugal force. This force pushes the molten metal against the mold walls, forming thin-walled cylinders.
Unlike other methods designed for complex, custom shapes, centrifugal casting focuses on producing rotationally symmetric stock materials in standard sizes. These castings serve as high-quality blanks intended for further machining rather than as finished end-use parts.
